Smulders of Belgium Grants E&I Contract to ProCon for Hollandse Kust West VI Project
Smulders, a company based in Belgium, has conferred an Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) contract to ProCon, a Danish organization, for the Hollandse Kust West VI offshore wind farm, which is being developed by the Ecowende consortium within the Netherlands.
This agreement encompasses ProCon’s responsibilities for the pre-assembly, outfitting, testing, and cold commissioning of 52 suspended inside platforms (SIPs) along with 52 exterior platforms intended for the foundations of the wind turbines.
This segment of the project is anticipated to be carried out at Smulders’ facilities located in Hoboken and Balen, Belgium, with operations expected to commence in the first quarter of 2025.
In December 2022, Shell and Eneco obtained the development rights for Hollandse Kust West VI. Prior to this, Japan’s Chubu Electric Power Company acquired a 30% share in the project from Eneco, thereby enhancing international cooperation on this initiative.
The offshore wind farm is expected to be situated approximately 53 kilometers off the coast of IJmuiden and is projected to produce enough electricity to meet roughly 3% of the Netherlands’ current electricity demand.
Van Oord has been engaged to manage the transportation and installation of the foundations, as well as the design, procurement, and installation of the interconnecting cables between the turbines.
The wind farm will consist of 54 wind turbines and is anticipated to become operational in 2026.
