TotalEnergies Sets Sail for Green Horizons with RWE’s Inexperienced Hydrogen Deal

TotalEnergies has finalized an agreement with RWE to acquire 30,000 tons of green hydrogen each year, which will be transported through a 600 km pipeline to TotalEnergies’ Leuna refinery in Germany commencing in 2030. The green hydrogen, generated by a 300 MW electrolyzer located in Lingen, is expected to mitigate emissions at the refinery by 300,000 tons of CO2 annually, representing the largest hydrogen contract from an electrolyzer in Germany.

Plug Energy reported that it has joined forces with Southwire to develop a clean hydrogen ecosystem at its new Dallas-Fort Worth distribution site, providing more than 50 hydrogen-fueled forklifts and a fueling station featuring 4 GenFuel dispensers. Plug Energy indicated that the hydrogen will be sourced from one of its production facilities in Georgia, Tennessee, or Louisiana.

Gasunie stated it will jointly explore the repurposing of the Petrogas pipeline beneath the North Sea to transport green hydrogen with Petrogas. The study, focused on modifying the pipeline for the offshore hydrogen project Demo 1, aims to reduce hydrogen costs and facilitate imports from other North Sea nations.

Hanwha Aerospace has received interim approval (AIP) certification from DNV for its 200 kW hydrogen fuel cell system intended for maritime applications. This certification enables the company to secure type approval for its Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) technology, improving its standing in the zero-carbon propulsion systems market for various marine vessels.
