While the solar and energy storage sectors prepare for changing political currents in Washington, DC, California remains steadfast in its mission: shattering clean energy milestones.
On May 20 at 7:45 p.m. (PDT), battery systems linked to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) grid achieved a new maximum instantaneous electricity output of 10,030 MW, becoming the foremost source of electricity on the grid at that moment and the second-highest peak output of the day, following solar energy production.

The next day, CAISO set a new record for renewable generation at 28,242 MW at 1:05 p.m., even as demand lingered around only 21 GW. This resultant surplus would have been unmanageable without California’s expanded battery resources, which continue to absorb midday solar energy production and avert widespread curtailment of surplus electricity.
