EDF Renewables has teamed up with ONYX Insight to consolidate condition monitoring across its international wind turbine fleet utilizing the fleetMONITOR platform. This initiative aims to enhance drivetrain health evaluations, improve predictive maintenance, and increase operational effectiveness across 5 gigawatts (GW) of wind resources.
With over 14.2 GW of renewable energy initiatives under management globally, EDF Renewables has been overseeing a variety of Condition Monitoring Systems (CMS) provided by different vendors. The absence of a consolidated platform resulted in inefficiencies and heightened the chances of overlooked fault identifications.
The organization selected fleetMONITOR, ONYX Insight’s hardware-agnostic analytical platform, to consolidate all CMS data within a single system. This encompasses integrations with external hardware alongside ONYX’s proprietary ecoCMS and ecoCMS Flex systems.
The platform is currently utilized by EDF Renewables’ engineers at its e-Diagnostic Centres located in Colombiers and Montpellier, France. Built on over ten years of failure analytics, fleetMONITOR facilitates quicker fault identification, more efficient maintenance plans, and enhanced turbine efficiency.
Following the launch of a pilot project in 2022, EDF Renewables expanded the cooperation after a fruitful technical assessment. ONYX Insight aided the deployment with training and onboarding to guarantee a seamless transition.
By the conclusion of 2025, EDF Renewables intends to monitor over 5 GW of assets using fleetMONITOR, marking a crucial advancement toward smarter, data-driven wind operations.
“Our partnership with EDF Renewables underscores the scalability and adaptability of fleetMONITOR,” stated Sven Thiesen, Director of Sales & Engineering – Europe at ONYX Insight. “By equipping EDF’s workforce with the appropriate tools and education, we’ve allowed the eDC to realize the complete potential of their wind energy resources.”
