Growth of Cahermurphy Wind Farm in County Clare, Ireland
The Cahermurphy Wind Farm in County Clare is poised for growth with the installation of a fourth turbine. Dutch consultancy Green Trust is actively engaged in this initiative, continuing its role from the establishment of the original wind farm.
The current facility, which consists of three Enercon E92 turbines, will be supplemented by an Enercon E115-4.2MW turbine. Green Trust is supplying asset management assistance to Mid Clare Renewable Energy DAC and plays a crucial role in the planning and implementation of this enlargement.
Project Development: Contracting, Financing, and Oversight
Green Trust has enabled both turbine and Balance of Plant (BOP) contracting, which includes the development of vital infrastructure such as foundations, access roads, and electrical wiring. The consultancy also finalized a power purchase agreement (PPA) and adeptly managed the project financing. The key achievement of financial closure was reached on April 15, permitting construction to start.
Apart from preparation, Green Trust will supervise the construction phase to ensure compliance with schedules and effectiveness. Project manager Joost Cornelli remarked, “Achieving this milestone is satisfying, and the addition of the fourth turbine corresponds with our initial vision. This expansion signifies a considerable progression for renewable energy in County Clare, and we expect the new turbine to be operational by mid-2025.”
Logistics and Project Schedule
The turbine parts have been produced and are set for shipment from Germany and Portugal to Ireland in early April. If the schedule stays on target, the components should arrive at the site by mid to late April. Construction will begin shortly after, aiming to have the new turbine operational by June 2025.
