The Haesong Offshore Wind 1 and 3 initiatives are overseen and financed by the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), while the development of the projects, encompassing execution, permitting, and technical advancement, is handled by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), an offshore wind developer linked with CIP.

This contract facilitates the linkage of 1 GW of renewable energy produced from the Haesong Offshore Wind 1 and 3 initiatives to KEPCO’s grid.

“This contract represents a critical milestone in the comprehensive rollout of the Haesong Offshore Wind 1∙3 Initiatives. It also acts as a trigger for Korea’s clean energy shift by establishing reliable transmission infrastructure, and we anticipate it will greatly contribute to the nationwide growth of renewable energy, extending beyond just the Shinan area,” stated Jonathan Spink, CEO of COP Korea.

As indicated by the project company, this is the inaugural instance where a large-scale offshore wind initiative in the Shinan area has secured a commitment from KEPCO to employ the 345 kV joint grid connection model.

“We will effectively undertake the subsequent phases, including engagement in wind power fixed-price auctions and construction of grid connection facilities, while also enhancing joint usage with surrounding developers and refining supply chain strategies. This will stimulate the larger offshore wind ecosystem in the area and position Shinan as a pivotal hub for Korea’s offshore wind sector,” remarked Jungwoo Hong, Strategic Grid Director at Haesong Offshore Wind Company.

The Haesong initiative is slated to be constructed off the western coast of Shinan, Jeonnam. The developer has already entered into two preferred supplier agreements for the offshore wind facilities.

LS Cable & System has been designated as the preferred supplier of subsea cables, while its subsidiary LS Marine Solution has been chosen as the preferred bidder for installation tasks.
