Oceans of Vitality commemorated a significant achievement of their offshore floating solar initiative last week with the arrival of the initial solar floaters at the Port of Amsterdam. These will be part of the solar installation that is set to be established within the Hollandse Kust Noord Offshore Wind Farm in 2025.
Last year, Oceans of Vitality was commissioned by CrossWind, the proprietor of the Hollandse Kust Noord Offshore Wind Farm, to set up and manage the floating solar installation at the wind farm. This initiative will become the largest grid-connected offshore solar installation within the North Sea and the first-of-its-kind combination of offshore solar with offshore wind (and offshore hydrogen), as stated by the company.
The modular, prefabricated units were delivered directly from the Oceans of Vitality factory. Last month, Oceans of Vitality marked the commencement of production for over 200 floaters that will constitute the floating solar farm.
According to Oceans of Vitality, the Port of Amsterdam is ideally suited for deploying the system. Earlier this year, the company showcased the assembly of the modular system in Belgium, where it proved to be quick and straightforward to put together. Only a few days are required to assemble a complete offshore system from the factory to the water. Offshore installation can be performed using light specification vessels. Oceans of Vitality is preparing for the tow-out of 7MW batches through the seawater sluice of IJmuiden.
The Oceans of Vitality offshore solar farm has already demonstrated its ability to withstand the frequent storms and harsh conditions of the North Sea throughout four years of continuous operations 12km offshore Scheveningen.
