RWE and TotalEnergies have designated the port of Eemshaven in the northern Dutch province of Groningen as the site for turbine assembly and construction activities for their collaborative offshore wind initiative OranjeWind in the Dutch North Sea.

In this regard, the OranjeWind partnership has formalized an agreement with Buss Terminal Eemshaven.

“Selecting a construction port is vital for any offshore wind initiative. Buss Terminal Eemshaven, with its marshaling and construction resources, possesses the capabilities essential for the successful execution of our OranjeWind venture,” remarks Thomas Michel, chief operating officer of RWE Offshore Wind. “Therefore, we have opted to utilize the Buss Terminal for OranjeWind while it concurrently supports our German Nordseecluster and Danish Thor initiatives.”

Construction operations at the offshore wind location are slated to commence in early 2026. Buss Terminal Eemshaven will enable the offloading, storage, management, and pre-assembly of significant turbine components and the inter-array cabling for the OranjeWind wind farm. The monopile foundations will be shipped directly to the offshore installation site from Sif’s manufacturing facility at the Port of Rotterdam.

Turbine installation at the OranjeWind offshore location, approximately 278 km from Eemshaven, is scheduled to begin in early 2027, with full commissioning anticipated by the conclusion of 2027.

RWE is presently utilizing the Buss terminal at Eemshaven for managing monopile foundations for its Danish offshore wind project Thor, while arrangements are being put in place to support the construction of its German offshore wind initiative Nordseecluster A. The agreement concerning the OranjeWind project will utilize a marshaling area spanning a total of 35-40 hectares to accommodate both OranjeWind and Nordseecluster B projects concurrently.
