Sif Netherlands B.V. and the maritime sustainability organization Sustainable Ships have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore mobile shore energy solutions at Maasvlakte Terminal.
This agreement aims to assess the viability of a mobile shore energy system with battery storage at Sif’s terminal located at Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Sif is committed to ambitious ESG objectives, featuring a clear focus on minimizing its carbon footprint. Among these objectives is a strong alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goal 7: affordable and clean energy.
In support of this initiative, Sif has initiated a specialized program to study and ultimately implement a shore power installation for maritime vessels. As a producer of offshore wind turbine foundations with direct access to the sea, maritime vessels frequently dock at Sif’s terminal. This MoU signifies a crucial advancement within that expansive initiative.
As part of this collaboration, Sustainable Ships will create a comprehensive business case—including technical, financial, and regulatory feasibility—to explore how mobile shore energy can be adopted to lower emissions throughout port activities. Source: Sustainable Ships Image: Sif
