With the placement of the final stones, Boskalis’ multi-year initiative for the 640MW Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm undertaking in Taiwan reaches its conclusion.
More than five years after Boskalis’ subsea rock installation vessel (SRIV) Seahorse positioned the initial rocks in the offshore wind facility in the Taiwan Strait, its SRIV Seapiper has now set the final rocks in their designated spots on the seabed.
The operations are part of the concluding stage of the project. Boskalis secured the contract for the Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm, developed by Yunneng Wind Power Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Skyborn Renewables GmbH, in December 2019. The scope was executed in multiple phases.
The two SRIVs have been indispensable, placing over 1 million tons of rock for erosion defense. Furthermore, Boskalis’ trailing suction hopper dredgers Beachway and Shoreway were significant contributors to the offshore wind farm’s construction, dredging nearly 20 million cubic meters of sand throughout the years, alongside the company’s water injection dredger Terra Plana, which also was vital during the installation tasks of the offshore wind facility.
The vessels performed a variety of tasks to facilitate the installation of the monopiles, cables, and wind turbine generators of the offshore wind farm and to shield the installed assets from erosion. Source (including image): Boskalis
