Van Wijngaarden Marine Services has finalized a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Kooiman Marine Group for the design and production of a DP2 multi-purpose vessel (MPV) featuring hybrid diesel-electric propulsion. The newly constructed MPV will assist in subsea operations and offshore renewable energy initiatives, among other projects, as stated by the vessel owner.
The MPV, measuring 47 meters in length, will have a width of 16 meters and a depth of 2.60 meters, equipped with two deck cranes and a tow/anchor handling winch.
The vessel’s design adheres to the most recent offshore regulations and is optimized for reduced energy usage, incorporating the latest IMO Tier III emission standards and ULEV (Ultra-Low Emission Vessel) compliance technologies, Van Wijngaarden Marine Services announced on 5 June after signing the LOI with Kooiman.
“This contract represents a new milestone in Van Wijngaarden Marine Services’ dedication to innovation, sustainability, and operational flexibility across their fleet along with Kooiman Marine Group’s unique design capabilities”, stated the owner of the newbuild.
Van Wijngaarden Marine Services manages a fleet of 19 vessels catering to diverse sectors, including offshore wind.
Currently, one of its vessels, the multi-purpose workboat Waalstroom, is engaged in operations at the Belgian Princess Elisabeth energy island, according to a social media update the Dutch company shared last month.
