Vestas has finalized a firm contract with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) for the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind initiative situated in Taiwan. To support the 495 MW offshore wind installation off the coast of Taichung, Vestas will provide 33 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines and has also concluded a long-term servicing agreement.
This marks Vestas’ first firm order for its V236-15.0 MW turbine in Taiwan, as indicated by the Danish wind turbine producer.
“We are privileged to collaborate with Vestas for the third occasion in Taiwan, and even more thrilled to be the first to implement their cutting-edge V236-15.0 MW turbine,” remarked Mark Wainwright, CEO of the Fengmiao I Project. “This milestone reflects our ambition to excel through innovation and set new benchmarks in performance, reliability, and sustainability. We are confident that, in partnership, we will deliver the Fengmiao I project punctually, safely, and to the utmost standards. We eagerly anticipate playing a crucial role in facilitating Taiwan’s energy transition and long-term renewable energy goals.”
CIP reached financial closure on Fengmiao 1 earlier this month, making the 495 MW offshore wind project the first to achieve this stage among Taiwan’s Round 3 projects and initiate construction.
The construction of the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind facility, located 35 kilometers from the Taichung coastline, is expected to be finalized by the end of 2027.
CIP has already secured several Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for the offshore wind project.
Last year, the developer entered into PPAs with United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) along with Sino-American Silicon Products and its renewable energy division, Sustainable Energy Solution (SES). In March, CIP also finalized PPAs with Far EasTone Telecommunications and MediaTek.
