This is an exhilarating chance for a motivated, qualified applicant in data science, environmental science, engineering, or a relevant discipline related to sensing and instrumentation, to accelerate their career development as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate.
The selected individual will spearhead the creation of environmental monitoring technologies, data administration, and analytical techniques to explore animal interactions with marine energy devices. This will entail independent design, research into sensing and instrumentation, testing and validation, system integration, data processing, and algorithm development. This vital work will enable UK and international regulatory bodies to mitigate or eliminate existing environmental concerns regarding marine renewable energy and streamline approval processes to support a sustainable, effective energy shift.
Co-financed by Innovate UK, KTP fosters collaborations between businesses and academic institutions, placing KTP Associates in positions to work on pioneering high-profile projects.
The chosen candidate will be engaged in a 36-month collaborative initiative between the world’s preeminent demonstration facility for wave and tidal energy technologies, the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), and the Environmental Research Institute at the University of the Highlands and Islands (ERI-UHI).
The successful applicant will acquire extensive hands-on and formal education, develop valuable skills, expand their knowledge and expertise within a project relevant to the industry, and obtain essential research and commercial experience from both business and academic mentors. There is ample opportunity for independence, as they will be answerable for and manage the project, with direct access to supervisors, and will coordinate efforts between the University and EMEC. They will cultivate proficiency in innovation as a launchpad for a future career in academia or industry.
The KTP Associate will also receive a Personal Development Budget of £6,000, substantial opportunities for training, and the chance to acquire new skills, with at least 10% of their time dedicated to personal growth. Two weeks of residential dedicated training in commercial awareness, leadership, and management will be provided with fellow KTP Associates.
