Sif has recently initiated the successful production of the inaugural monopile for the Empire Wind 1 offshore wind project in US waters at their newly upgraded facilities at Maasvlakte 2, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
Empire Wind 1 is a venture by Equinor and will feature 54 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 810 MW. The first of these 54 monopiles was completed on 28 November 2024. The fabrication of the monopiles and transition components for Empire Wind 1 is on schedule for Q1 2025, with delivery to the USA for offshore installation near New York.
Empire Wind 1 is part of the larger Empire Wind initiative, situated 15-30 miles southeast of Long Island, which also includes the 1,260 MW Empire Wind 2 project. Empire Wind 1 will be America’s initial offshore wind project to connect directly to the New York City grid, aiming to deliver first power in late 2026.
