Venterra Group and Tonkin + Taylor have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to work together on offshore wind initiatives in Australia and New Zealand.
With both nations setting ambitious offshore wind goals – Australia targeting 32 GW by 2030 and New Zealand investigating up to 8 GW – this alliance is strategically positioned to take advantage of significant market prospects, the companies stated.
“Tonkin + Taylor’s extensive local expertise, combined with Venterra’s comprehensive lifecycle service offerings and global offshore wind knowledge, establishes a robust foundation to ensure project success. Together, we are well-equipped to assist governments and developers in executing large-scale offshore wind initiatives that will facilitate the region’s energy transition,” expressed Paul Doherty, Chief Business and Development Officer of Venterra Group.
The collaboration will provide Owner’s Engineering services; environmental and geotechnical assessments, analysis, and support; foundation design, including both fixed and floating options; marine surveys, encompassing acoustics and hydrographic studies; project management and complete lifecycle engineering; as well as unexploded ordnance (UXO) and metocean data evaluation.
“We recognize the unique challenges involved in developing offshore wind projects in both Australia and New Zealand, including the geological complexities, such as carbonate soils, and environmental and community concerns, including Indigenous and First Nation viewpoints,” noted David Champness, APAC Director of Venterra Group.
According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), New Zealand possesses a technical offshore wind potential of 2,252 GW. Out of this, 148 GW has been identified as suitable for fixed-bottom wind turbines, and 2,104 GW for floating wind.
