The bridge incorporates Art Deco and Art Moderne design elements as well as styles derived from Gothic architecture. The Gothic influence is evident in the balustrade, which showcases small pointed arches, and in the arches of the lateral span piers. The bridge’s ends are enriched by pedestrian plazas that provide a vista of the bridge and allow access to the parks at the landings via staircases. Pedestals were intended for envisioned sculptures of seals, but the statues were never realized.
