Amasus Delivery, a Dutch shipping company, has recently unveiled the Rotra Futura, the first of two ROTRA XL vessels, at Jiangsu Zhenjiang Shipyard in China. This ship is specifically designed to support the offshore wind sector.
The design of the ROTRA XL vessels is a joint initiative between Siemens Gamesa, deugro, DEKC Maritime, and Concordia Damen. This innovative vessel concept enhances the well-established and award-winning Rotra series, which includes the Rotra Mare and Rotra Vente. The ROTRA XL vessels are crafted to accommodate the increasing dimensions and weight of next-generation offshore wind turbine components, ensuring maximum cargo efficiency and operational adaptability.
The Rotra Futura, along with its sister vessel Rotra Horizon, spans 167.6 meters in length and 26 meters in breadth. The vessels feature a strategically situated deckhouse and accommodation section at the front, optimizing cargo efficiency and removing any line-of-sight obstructions. Notable features include a stern roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) ramp, three Liebherr cranes, and a dedicated gantry system that allows for the storage of wind turbine blades in three tiers. This arrangement improves the flexibility in cargo organization and loading methods.
Siemens Gamesa and deugro have secured a long-term charter agreement for both newly constructed vessels, which are anticipated to be delivered in 2025. Source: Amasus Delivery / deugro
